Students MUST elect to have an electronic copy rather than a printed copy by December
31st in the tax year the election is applicable. This can be changed any time prior to January
1st.
At the end of each tax year, CSU Northridge will generate a form 1098-T for each student who was enrolled in graded courses during that respective tax year AND whose total tuition, and qualified expenses, exceeds Scholarships, Grants and Sponsorships.
Tuition for the year is calculated by the calendar date the charge is posted to
the Student Account, NOT the date paid.
Students can access and print this form via their CSUN Portal account at any time after January 23rd (estimated date). Printed copies will be mailed to students after January 31st.
When accessing your Form 1098-T online AFTER January 31st, a message of "NO MATCHES FOUND" for the selected year means: 1098-T was not generated due to tuition or enrollment ineligibility.
- CSU Northridge reports tuition and qualified expenses BILLED in the tax year as the total for Box 2. Box 1 will always be blank.
- Some charges are billed to student accounts but do not qualify for tax reporting purposes.
- Scholarships, Grants and Sponsorships used to pay tuition and other CSU expenses will lower the total reported amount.
- Student Financial Services cannot give tax advice.
